I read this book a while ago, at a time in my life when self-compassion was not something that came naturally to me. Accompanied by wonderful meditations and personal anecdotes, this book is a teacher of compassion for those at all ends of the self-compassion spectrum. Whilst it may not be easy to take on at all, this book is a great start for those wishing to accept and reduce the hold of painful emotions such as shame, fear, and blame. Using the four-step RAIN practice, (Recognise, Allow, Investigate, and Nurture), Brach brings healing to life in both a practical and a spiritual way. I’d specifically recommend listening to the audio-version – it is very soothing, and listening to it as you go about your day allows words of self-compassion to accompany you wherever you go.
